Despite the loss of Benzema to injury early in the match, Real Madrid got the better of Real Sociedad this Saturday and thus consolidates its leadership (0-2).

The poster for the 16e La Liga lift started with bad news for Real: the wound of Benzema and his exit from the field in the 16e minute. However, despite the premature loss of the top scorer (12) and passer (7) of the Spanish elite, the White House has been able to impose respect on one of its most serious runners up this season: the Real Sociedad.

The San Sebastian club – which has slowed down in recent weeks it is true – held the dragee high to its opponent for a period of time, before giving in in quick succession at the start of the second act, on banderillas planted by Vinicius (47e) and Jovic (57e), the Serbian substitute of Benzema already decisive passer on the opening of the scoring. Unable to frame the least of its eight attempts, Sociedad thus missed its chance.

A margin of eight units

In the standings, Real Madrid take advantage of Atlético de Madrid’s misstep at home in front of Mallorca (1-2) to further widen the gap on its direct pursuer. A first runner-up relegated to eight lengths which now takes the features of Sevilla FC, executioner of Villarreal earlier in the day (1-0). The Matelassiers even tumble in fourth position, overtaken by a Betis scorer from Barça at Camp Nou (0-1).
